Miranda began practicing counseling, interning at McNeese State University’s
Kay Dore’ Counseling Clinic in Calcasieu Parish. After graduating, Miranda
worked in a variety of settings such as residential inpatient, outpatient, and
community mental health. Miranda has worked with many different client
populations and mental health concerns ranging from high level to low level
issues.
Miranda’s experiences shaped her specialization in trauma-focused
therapy and the treatment of trauma and PTSD. She is trained in evidence-
based modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing
(EMDR), Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), and Trauma-Focused
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). It is her intention to continue to
expand her skillset with continued advanced trauma trainings. She works
with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples.
Miranda approaches therapy from a trauma-informed, integrative perspective, pulling from various psychotherapeutic modalities such as
Person-Centered Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Polyvagal Theory, and Family Systems. Miranda’s goal is to help clients gain insight into how their unprocessed past experiences get stored within the nervous system, resulting in them being stuck in survival mode, manifesting into a variety of symptoms and problems. Using this insight, she supports clients in practicing self-compassion and empowering themselves to change patterns, beliefs, behaviors, and systems.
Miranda specializes in
“Taking the step to begin counseling is an honorable and brave thing. As a
trauma informed counselor, my goal is to provide a supportive space where
you feel safe enough to explore yourself and process your experiences. I
strive to make you feel heard and understood but also challenged and
empowered to make the necessary changes needed to achieve your goals. I
have also been on the other side, as a client, so I am aware of the delicate nature of being on the other side of the couch."
