Play therapy is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on the child and what is best for them. While it may look like an ordinary playtime, play therapy can be much more than that. The play is led by the child, giving the child autonomy to take control back over their life and resolve whatever is causing distress to them, at their own pace, and through a medium which is comfortable, natural and familiar.
Children may not be able to process their own emotions or articulate problems to parents or other adults. A trained therapist can use playtime to observe and gain insights into a child’s problems. Therapy can then help the child explore emotions and deal with unresolved trauma. Children learn new coping mechanisms and how to redirect inappropriate behaviors.
This type of counseling specializes in issues that face teenagers today and helps to make sense of their feelings, behaviors and thoughts.
Therapy with teenagers helps with:
EMPOWER: 8 WEEK CONFIDENCE TRAINING
We have wanted our children to "be involved" and take etiquette classes, art, music, sports, etc. but, too easily forget that the belief in one's self, self-confidence, is a root to overall health and well-being throughout the life span. Self-esteem impacts our choices in every area of life. Give your teen a foundation of confidence that will improve a sense of self-worth and help with choices in friendships, relationships, careers and so much more
EMPOWER is an 8-week set of individual counseling sessions that are called confidence classes targeted at building confidence for adolescents. Adolescence is a time of asking questions and forming ones identity including a search for feelings of acceptance and belongingness. This is an opportunity to learn skills to build self-esteem and to instill a belief system of self-love, self-compassion and dignity. Through this 8-week process that is also individually tailored; negative thoughts and beliefs from past and present experiences are worked through, if applicable.
This is a time for growth and healing in order to recognize how adversity can give you strength. Classes are based on evidence-based therapeutic approaches that are eclectic and holistic in nature depending upon each client's needs with an emphasis on cognitive behavioral therapy and positive psychology. These classes are for anyone looking to feel better about themselves and grow into the beautiful person they were meant to be.
