Her goal is to help adolescents and young children build confidence, manage big emotions, and develop skills they need to thrive both now and in the future. Every child is unique, and she can tailor each session to fit clients' individual needs.
She is excited to begin her private practice career here at Acadian Counseling Center!
My'Kayla's approach to counseling from a Person Centered, Solution Focused and Cognitive Behavior perspective. She serves adolescents of all ages and backgrounds in providing a safe and supportive journey of self-discovery, growth, and change. Some ways My'Kayla contributes to client’s journey are: creating a safe space, building relationships, preforming assessments, contributing to goal setting, applying therapeutic techniques, supporting self-reflection, and provides social and emotional support. She can also provide clients and their families with resources to ensure a successful school year. Her goal is, also, to facilitate and support adolescents on their journey to success by accepting them unconditionally where they are.
At this time My'Kayla is only providing in-person counseling services.
"As a counselor who will utilize different approaches that will fit the client’s needs, I feel that change is possible but it’s never easy. Most people seek counseling to change their life or something in it. I think real change takes a lot of hard work and self-reflection even after counseling. Change is, in fact, one of the hardest parts of life and the scariest.
I believe my role as a counselor is to guide and support while the client identifies and explores. Often things in our life get rough and we need news ways of "being". As counselor, my job isn’t to change my clients, but to simply facilitate and support in their changing process. Ultimately, I do not directly change clients, I play a pivotal role in supporting and guiding clients on their journey of self-discovery, growth, and change."
